Mammoth Lake researchers have discovered that more bears live in the Mammoth area than would if there were no humans living there. Such is also the case at Northstar™ Resort. The reason is simple---more people make more garbage, which, when accessible, attracts more bears.

Our Bear Problem is Really a Human Problem!
When people leave food in bear accessible areas, the bears will investigate, become more bold and make daily treks to those areas. Such areas include garbage dumpsters, decks and open garages. Bears will wander onto decks and into garages as well as break into homes where smells are evident.
Sadly, when a bear becomes a nuisance in its search for food, its life is at great risk. “Bad bears” that get into trouble are not captured and relocated, they are KILLED---hence the phrase, “a fed bear is a dead bear.”
The only way to protect people, their homes and keep bears “wild and free” is to eliminate food sources. Please join in the goal to have “no bear killed at Northstar™ Resort” by implementing the measures listed on this website.
